Hello
I recently aquired a model 870 lightweight 410ga with skeet choke. According to the date code chart and the KT stamping on the barrel it was made in 1970. The serial number begins with an S and ends with H. Is this indeed a first year production Gun and does that increase it's value? The gun itself is in outstanding condition. Thanks for your help.
First year production 870 410ga
Re: First year production 870 410ga
Thanks Den
I already saw that and it doesn't give me any ideas about how date of manufacture might effect value. I know of some other firearms that have increased value because they are first year or early production.

Re: First year production 870 410ga
Since the date code indicates a 1970 date and the small gauge 870's were introduced in 1969 (in matched pairs only), yours would not be a "first year production".
As far as the letter prefixes and suffixes, those typically indicate things like gauge, frame size (small, standard or magnum) and date ranges.

I did some searching and found (I believe) a comprehensive list of the letter prefix and suffixes.

Re: First year production 870 410ga
Thanks again Den
So it's not first year production but the first year they were sold individually and not in matched pairs?

That's my interpretation based on the information you've supplied.
That would be a nice little gun to have.
