Model 10 or 29

Post by redoftx »

Sirs, hello. This is my first post here. I have come across this old Remington. 30" full choke matted rib barrel. Barrel and receiver serial match - #161xxx. Bottom feed, bottom eject like a Browning pump. If the pic. is not clear, the lines read :

REMINGTON ARMS - UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO.
REMINGTON WORKS, ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A.
PATENTED FEBRUARY 3, 1903, AND MAY 16,1905

Looking at the picture, it says "model 10-S". The only reference for this shotgun I have is the blue book of gun values. I looked under the heading Remington: Shotguns: Slide Action Disc. I am trying to figure out what exactly I have. Is it a model 10, or 29. If you take the 10 and add the "s" ( 19th letter of the alphabet so 10 + 19 = 29)do I have a model 29 since the only trap grade I see is a 29S "Trap Special"?

Not looking to sell, not looking for value, just information. Any help is appreciated. Known approx. number made?

The company name was Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Co. from 1911 to 1920. In 1920 the company name became Remington Arms Co., Inc. The old company ledger available on this web site starts in September 1919 when Remington resumed civilian production after WW-I, and the first Model 10 serial number is 172939 on September 30, 1919 and the Model 10 list ends at 277990 in December 22, 1928.

The Model 29, sort of an improved Model 10, was only built from 1929 to 1932. Almost like it was a stop-gap until the Model 31 was ready to go.

Here is the Model 10S from the 1913-14 Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co. catalogue --
