Help Dating Remington 700
Re: Help Dating Remington 700
Your rifle was assembled in July of 1968. It appears to have been repaired at a factory authorized shop in October of 1973 if I'm reading the repair date stamping correctly. The serial number lines up with the others made at the time.

Yep. My first Remington 700 was made the same month and year as yours. Also in .30-06. I bought it in early 1969 (brand new) on a closeout (for $90) as Remington was changing their stock styles for 1969.
Mine has a slightly higher serial number (400+ more than yours).
In the late 1980s, I converted mine to a BDL with an early 1970s stock and floorplate I acquired from a co-worker back in that decade. His had been a .25-06 and he converted his into a target rifle of some sort and sold me the stock.
It's very accurate and has taken a good number of game animals over the last 45 years.
