Shortly after my move to Florida I was asked to look over a Model 32 F with gold inlays, sn 50, with a 30" 12 ga. barrels and a 28" 20 ga barrels for sale. There were questions as the gold shield on the stock had a name and a 12/25/1968 date. The high grade stock and the checkering looked like 1960s Remington high grade custom shop work. The kick pad is marked White Line by Pachmayr with Larry DelGrego & Son over Ilion, NY. The price was right and it is now in my gun safe.
It was sent to Del Gregos for cleaning, removing a dent and examination as it sat in a closet for 25 years. I was going to be in Ilion as a member of the RSA Research Team so went up to Del Gregos and Babe gave me the story behind #50. Apparently there were a number of low serial number 32s in the area and were purchased as they come up for sale in the 1960s. They have #32 and know where #5 is. #50 was reworked in his shop by Remington Custom Shop employees working after hours. Bob Runge did the engraving and gold inlays and signed it on the bottom R over RUNGE over ENGR ILION NY in a small triangle. Just ahead of the trigger guard in a small banner is DEL GREGO over HI GRADE. Babe remembered working on my 32 but was not able to estimate how many 32s they upgraded over the years. This is about as close as one can get to a factory Model 32F as it was worked on 35 years later by Remington employees moonlighting just up the road from the factory.
