Rare Remington 1100 Prototype? Need help please
Rare Remington 1100 Prototype? Need help please
This Remington Model 1100 MAGNUM in 12ga with 32" barrel has factory upgraded wood (there is a letter) and the box end label has a "proto" (prototype) sticker. This shotgun belongs to one of my customers and he wishes to get the firearm documented and possibly sell it. It is not for sale at this time. If you know any experts in this field or can help point us in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

From 1963? Very Cool! I Love this Stuff.
Re: Rare Remington 1100 Prototype? Need help please
The gun is a standard Magnum 1100 manufactured after 1979 and is therefore what we call a second generation 1100 as is evident from the style of rollmarking and checkering. The only 3" chambered 1100 32" barrels that Remington Manufactured that I am aware of were for the 'Atlantic' Model of 1982-1983. Apparently they didn't sell all that well. Perhaps they had some leftover barrels and so stuck them on regular Magnums later, who knows. I would not expect that gun to fetch a large premium, but is does appear to be in exceptional condition.
What could have happened... did.

Thank you for that information. I completely agree with your dating of the shogun. I did not know about the Atlantic models. I am assuming it does not appear to be an Atlantic model, but out of interest in all things Remington, how can they be identified? Thanks again, Dan

Returning to the original question, the 1982 Atlantic model was the only 1100 they ever cataloged with a 32" barrel.
There are a slew of "limited edition" models out there. DU models, the one of 3000 models, the Anniversary Models, etc., etc.
