Trying to get some information on some Remington Rifles from my Dad's collection.

Directly from his notes: Remington .32 short or long RF - Full Octagon Barrel - Drop Block - Not Break Down - Solid - Not Marked #4

Serial # - J271175

Given the serial number, I am curious to find out the following:

1) What is the Model / Model #

2) What is the date of manufacture?

I am having difficulties finding information relating to the serial numbers starting w/ J.

It sounds like you have a model 4 rolling block by the serial number. Pictures would help identification.
