M14 dating.

Post by beleg2 »

Hi,
This is my first time.
Thanks for so much info about model 14 rifles, I really love those rifles.
I have a M 14R (carbine) and I would like to know when is was made?
Serial # C 7158x.
I have read that R model was made for a short time, is it right?

Thanks
Martin

IIRC 14Rs did not have a serial series of their own. Yours was made pre-1921 (C serial number on the bottom of the receiver) and post 1917 (I have a 14 with serial number 54xxx). :)

Tbury,
Thanks for your answer.
I have been doing some research. Ithink it was made on 1919 because it have thumb-safety on the block introduced in 1919. Also have find a post with a 1919 rifle # 73xxx.

Thanks
Martin

According to a table in a 2004 article in the RSA Journal 71441 to 80482 serial numbers were made in 1920. If your gun has characteristics of a 1919 gun it may be a case of those parts being used in a later assemblied gun.
