Is it an antique? Unique? model 700

Post by JGA2Z »

I have a model 700 .30-06 w/22" bbl I'm trying to date. I've checked the manufacture date page here, but am in disbelief of my interpretation.
Code on L side of barrel is U B W P. The P is a little below the line of the U B W, but all evenly spaced. Additionally strange, no floor plate on stock for 4rd magazine well.

Would it be the BW is prod date, Jan 1928?!? NOT?.. Ser # is 6517xxx.
Any help would be appreciated to date this rifle, or submodel info ADL, BDL ???
Thanks in advance.

The 700 wasn't made untill 1962. Your picture showes a ADL model (no floorplate or forearm cap). I think the "P" in your code is an inspectors stamp. That would leave "BW" or Jan 1972. From the pictures it seems about right.

Serial number nails it as a rifle built in 1972.
