Near to dating my Rem. model 11 - but still need some help.

Post by buckmccall »

Help anyone :| :

Please help me date my late grandfathers bird hunting partner.

The two characters on the barrell near the reciever are an "L" and what appears to be either a smaller "v" which seems to create problems with the dating web site or an "X" that has worn at the bottom end creating what looks like a small letter "v". Plugging in LX on the dating site gives me Feb., 1929.

My serial number on the reciever is 349384 and (after just now removing it) matches the number on the barrell itself.

Since I'm not completely sure on the x or v issue, I'd like to confirm with serial number, but could not find it in the list of numbers on the hisotircal site.

The rest of the barrell top is marked as follows:

"Remington Arms Co., Inc. Remington ILION Works, ILION N.Y. made in USA
Browings Patents Oct, 9. 1900. Dec, 17, 01. Sept, 30. 02. June 16. 03. Feb, 13. 06."

Can anyone help confirm the feb., 29 date or a source for the correct date if this is wrong :?:

Also, what is the best method to getting a copy of the original manual for it :?: :?:

Thanks a bunch :)

The company name became Remington Arms Co., Inc. in 1920. Page 22 of the old factory ledger would place that serial number, 349,384, as being manufactured during December 1928. On November 24, 1928, Remington had reached serial number 348,426 for Model 11s and by December 28, 1928, they were at 350,478.

One can often find old manuels or photocopies of them in ebay --

Remington will send you a copy. You will need to "sign up" on their site. It's pretty easy and gives you a photocopy of the manual. Should be most all you need.
