Woodsmaster 742 problem...

Post by Randy77 »

Hi,

I'm trying to disassemble a Woodsmaster 742 in 30-06 for cleaning.

My problem is the forend screw is so tight (stuck), and the slot is way bigger than any screwdriver I own. Is there a special tool for this forend screw? Any ideas?

Thanks,

I don't know of any special tool. Get a screw driver that fits the screw very well or it'll slip and drive into your hand. :( Just a thought-do you own a chainsaw with a bar adjusting tool with a sparkplug socket on one end and a large slot driver on the other? This would give you some torque.

I believe that Remington made special tools for the gunsmiths to disassemble their rifles and more recently put some of them on the market for the do it yourselfer.

The first thing you should do is mount the gun in a gun vise before trying to disassemble it.

Then use the proper wrench to take it apart.

Chances are, and I am just guessing here that someone might have put some loc tite on the threads and it will have to be heated to be removed.

Take it to a gunsmith and have it look at by a professional.
