Need help with a model 141
Need help with a model 141
This rifle will not let the catridge case out of the magazine tube. When it does let the case out it will then jam, letting the front of the case drop and not lifting it level to chamber. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You Mike
Re: Need help with a model 141
They won't feed cases at all . Try loaded ammo !

Hey!
A simple question deserves a simple answer but nothing about the feed systems on these rifles is simple or easy, there are a lot of variables involved.
The first being what ammunition are you using, is it factory or some reloads of dubious origin!
Not making it out of the magazine tube could be related to OACL of the cartridge, it could be the cartridge stop is hung up or in some way damaged, it could be related to the magazine spring or follower.
If the cartridge is the proper length (and not some pointed reload) and will not feed up into the chamber it is either a problem with the carrier dog/carrier dog spring or the carrier itself. Some of this can be remedied by a good cleaning but also depends on how many hands have been in there before messing around and doing damage.
If this rifle is in good condition otherwise, it is possible that 50-70 years of oil/gunk have turned to hardended varnish and are impeding the numerous machined parts needed for the feed system to perform.
If your gun has a serial before 42,000 it has much better internal fit than those after it and I have had some real nasty carrier & carrier dog problms with guns over 42,000. I have had two in the shop in the past 10 days alone, one of those included a stop that wedged into place and had no play at all. gain, lots of variables.
In exchange for the above info I would ask that you provide Tom Hemphill the serial, caliber, and barrel code (two or three letters on the barrel, just in front & below of the brass shellhead on the left side of the receiver) It helps with building a data base on the rifles and would be appreciated.
Your rifle can be made usable, it may just require a complete takedown & cleaning or repair/replacement of some parts (like the carrier dog spring, stop, carrier, carrier friction plunger, and so on). If you have not taken on of these rifles apart before, its not rocket science but you can readily lose some of the small parts so you need to be careful and re-installing the bolt can be interesting and annoying if you haven't done it before.................and some bolts on higher serial 141's can be a real challenge.
See...........no simple answer.
