Daum collection at Cowan's

Post by Dick Hosmer »

The extensive, and fantastic, collection of the late A. C. (Tony) Daum is up for auction at Cowan's.

Included are a modest number of Springfield-Remington rolling blocks. There is an 1870 trials carbine (one of 8 known) and probably the finest known 1870 trials rifle, as well as other more common varieties. Condition is, in most cases, WAY above average, well into the drooling range, for me at least. I'll be interested in seeing what they fetch, as our collecting interests had much in common.

I miss Tony - we were not close friends, and never met face-to-face, but certainly enjoyed the camaraderie of collecting. He helped me greatly on the Marksman's Rifle chapter of my forthcoming book. Of course, there are a great many fantastic trapdoors as well. Perusing the on-line catalog is a treat. I will not be bidding on anything, so this heads-up is given with no strings attached.
