THE REMINGTON ARCHIVES ROOM IS ESTABLISHED

The initial research trip in 1991 was successful, and the team from RSA was given the go-ahead to expand their involvement.

It was in 1992 that Plant Manager John Winskie retired, and Sam Rensi was promoted to run the rifle and shotgun production facility in Ilion, New York. This was fortuitous, as Sam recognized the importance of preserving Remington's precious history - and had the insight to put up the money to bring this about. Sam persuaded Kevin Cornell, a Remington employee, to assume management of the Remington Archives. Kevin brought to the job the enthusiasm and energy that was most needed. He procured a climate-controlled room in the main office area, brought in open rack shelving, and purchased hundreds of acid-free boxes and other archival materials.

Next, Sam hired a recent graduate from Ohio University, Janice Estey, who held an advanced degree in Records Preservation. And thus the stage was set - the room, the archival materials, full-time workers, and experienced advisors were ready to tackle a monumental task - preserving Remington's heritage!
