Model 41 without "Targetmaster" on barrel
I have several old Remington .22 rifles, including a model 41 that does not say "Targetmaster" on the barrel like all the other 41's I've seen. Date code puts it at April 1936. Does anyone know if they added the "Targetmaster" designation at some point after production started? I have another 41 from 1937 and it does say Targetmaster on it. Any help on this mystery is appreciated.
Re: Model 41 without "Targetmaster" on barrel
I refinished a couple of 41s recently . One had Tragetmaster on it the other (1936 Mfg.) didn't . It wasn't uncommon for Remington to name guns after production had started , the models 12 and 14 didn't have model numbers when they started production . The model 141 didn't become the Gamemaster until after production had started too .

As oneoldsap said, the early ones were not stamped Targetmaster. Depending on the production date, the bolts could be quite different also.

This one looks like the bolt on my other, later, 41. I do have a 341 with an odd looking bolt, though. I'm pretty sure it's been modified - a large round machined knob on the back. I'll try to post a picture tonight and see what you think.
Thank you both for the replies.
Is there an article somewhere that looks at Remington's practice of naming certain firearms? Looks like it was popular in the mid-late 30's, then popped up once or twice later. Is the latest named gun the 870 Wingmaster in the 60's?

Did the 341 have a twist-safety bolt?
